Creating a carved wooden piece as intricate and biomechanical as a Xenotops demands a complex and time-intensive process. My work involves a fusion of power and precision, utilizing electric tools like a milling machine with a specialized array of cutters. The Xenotops pipe is painstakingly hand-carved from briar wood, chosen for its heat resistance – crucial for a smoking pipe – and its remarkable ability to capture the finest, often sharp and sinuous, details of the alien form. Every ridge, every tendon, every bio-mechanical element is carefully sculpted to bring this iconic creature to life in wood. I exclusively use the highest quality Italian briar wood in my creations.
