Skull Pipe — Detailed Perfection Embodied in Briar Wood

This time, I wanted to make a classic skull pipe that would be hand-carved from Italian briar. I improved the shape of the skull and changed the shape of the teeth. I had to sacrifice a little anatomy, but it looks very detailed and impressive. The pipe tamper is also in the shape of a skull on a carved leg, carved from black hornbeam wood. And the icing on the cake is the brass tooth that I inserted into the jaw. I rarely say this, but I am pleased with my work. I think this is one of the most detailed wooden skull pipes in the world. Materials and Tools for a Wooden Skull Pipe

As I mentioned earlier, the skull pipe is carved from Italian briar, and the tamper is carved from black hornbeam wood. These are fairly hard types of wood, and to achieve such clarity and detail, I used my drill and many different attachments for it, cutters, and diamond burs. Sometimes I also use hand tools such as chisels, files, and gravers. This version of the carved skull does not use stain, only special oil and careful polishing.

Wooden Skull Pipe: Custom Orders and Commissions

Stages of creating the Carved Skull Pipe:

  • Discussing the project with the buyer to understand their requirements.
  • The client pays a prepayment via PayPal to start.
  • The pipe sketch is drawn taking into account the buyer’s wishes.
  • A test clay sculpture is sculpted if deemed necessary.
  • Carving a skull pipe
  • The finished photos are sent to the customer, and the remaining payment is received.
  • The pipe is shipped internationally via DHL.
